A NATIONAL LEADER IN GUT HEALTH & NUTRITION
Michelle Pearlman, M.D. is a board-certified gastroenterologist and obesity medicine specialist. As a board-certified gastroenterologist, she understands the importance of gut health as it pertains to dietary habits and maintaining a healthy weight. She uses a “food is medicine” approach with all of her patients.
There is no such thing as a “quick fix” in regards to being healthy or losing weight. Fad diets are just that…they promise quick results, are very restrictive, are not sustainable, and lead to rapid weight regain once they are discontinued. Unfortunately, in the age of the internet, there is a wealth of information on the web in regards to the “perfect diet and exercise plan.” These plans are often not supported by evidence and are promoted by individuals who may or may not have any formal training/education/certifications in nutritional counseling/dietetics. As a consumer, one has to educate themselves instead of trusting any information that is found on the internet. Additionally, many foods/liquids/supplements are marketed as being “healthy” when in fact they are laden with sugar or artificial sweeteners and may in fact be contributing to disease and weight gain. As a public leader and health professional, I believe I can help simplify the wealth of information available to the public so that consumers can become well educated on how to make healthier decisions for themselves depending on their individual goals.
I started to become interested in nutrition and exercise when I was a teenager because I felt it was a great outlet for stress reduction. I soon realized that most people are never taught the basic fundamentals of nutrition and have made it a priority to educate myself and others on how we can use nutrition and exercise to supplement and/or replace medical “pharmaceutical” treatments to reduce the burden of disease, healthcare costs, and improve overall well-being.
I am on a mission to educate the community on the fundamentals of wellness and nutrition in a digital world. It is my mission to support and develop successful and affordable approaches to the prevention and treatment of obesity and its associated diseases by providing accessible, innovative and comprehensive care to our local, regional, national, and international communities using a multidisciplinary approach.
